National Heritage Week, led by the National Heritage Council, honours Ireland’s natural, built, and cultural legacy, fostering awareness. GPG proudly supports this initiative by hosting annual Heritage Nights at our Celbridge HQ, which was once home to a famine workhouse. Guided by local historian Cathi Fleming, our events ‘If These Walls Could Talk’ delves into the site’s history and its role in the community’s past.
Heritage Night 2023
National Heritage Week is an initiative led by the National Heritage Council, that celebrates Ireland’s natural, built and cultural heritage that aims to promote a general awareness of our heritage. We at GPG were proud to be once again participating in this year’s national celebrations to host two Heritage Nights at our Head Offices in Celbridge, Co.Kildare. The buildings that are now home to our Head Offices at GPG once served a very different purpose as a famine workhouse. Locally and historically known as ‘The Paint Factory’, these buildings are bursting with colour and are a key part of the community of Celbridge’s heritage.
Consisting of a guided tour led by local historian Cathi Fleming, our Heritage Nights took attendees on a journey from past to present, as we reflected on the rich history of the site. Aptly named ‘If These Walls Could Talk’, our Heritage Night events centred around the pivotal role of the famine workhouse in the local community and what we know of the lives and stories told within these walls. A special mention to Cathi for bringing the history of the buildings to life in such an engaging way. We would like to thank all attendees for their participation and interest in our Heritage Nights and we look forward to future heritage events.
